Zofran Information:
What is Zofran?
Zofran is an anti-emetic drug. It works by affecting the 5-HT3 receptor, a receptor that produces serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, and it makes patients who have recently undergone procedures like chemotherapy or surgery extremely nauseous. Zofran blocks the receptor that transmits the serotonin, thus reducing the patient’s stomach discomfort. Because Zofran is used only right before and for a couple days following treatment, its cost should not deter patients. If you don’t want to pay the full Zofran price, keep in mind the patient assistance available to you. Companies like HelpRx offer Zofran coupons to make sure patients have access to affordable medication.
How do I take Zofran?
Before you go to the pharmacy to fill your prescription, print a Zofran discount coupon. Your doctor will prescribe your Zofran either as tablets, or in liquid form. Typically patients start taking Zofran shortly before they begin their treatment, and then for 1 or 2 days following. Your doctor will tell you how much and how often to take the medicine. If your Zofran comes as pills, be sure to peel the foil instead of pushing the pill through the foil packaging.
Before taking Zofran, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to SSRIs or any of the ingredients in the Zofran drug
- You are taking any prescription or nonprescription drugs
- You have a heart condition
- You have low potassium levels
- You are experiencing excessive sweating
- You have diarrhea
- You have phenylketonuria
