What is Vistaril?

Vistaril (hydroxyzine pamoate) is an atypical medication, insofar as it can act as an antihistamine, a sedative, and an anti-nausea or antianxiety medication without being a cortical depressant, antipsychotic, or tranquilizer (e.g., benzodiazepines). It's absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract and active in about 15 to 30 minutes

Visteral uses include acting as an antihistamine for runny nose/coughing and hives, an anti-nausea agent to control the nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness, and as a soothing agent for skin conditions like dermatitis. How do I take Vistaril?

This medication is available in capsules to be taken orally, as an oral solution, or as an injectable intramuscular solution. The doctor will determine your dose based on what needs to be treated as well as your age. Do not take more or less Vistaril than prescribed, and only take the intramuscular injection when told to by the doctor, as oral formulations are preferred.

What are the possible side effects of taking Vistaril?

Serious side effects include: convulsions or tremors, confusion, uncontrollable and restless muscle motions (especially in the eyes, jaw, neck, or tongue), swelling in your face or lips, swelling in your tongue or throat, hives and itching, difficulty breathing. If you experience any of these Vistaril side effects, seek emergency medical assistance.

Common Vistaril side effects include: headache, blurred vision, dizziness, dry mouth, drowsiness.
