Ultravate Information:
What is Ultravate?
Ultravate is the brand name of halobetasol, a topical corticosteroid prescribed for the treatment of the inflammation, swelling, and itching associated with skin conditions such as dermatitis, poison ivy infections, dermatitis, insect bites, rashes, eczema, and others.
How do I take Ultravate?
Ultravate is a topical ointment applied directly to the damaged skin, usually two to four times a day, depending on the parameters of the prescription. Before applying, thoroughly clean and dry the affected area, then apply just enough to cover the zone, gently massaging it into the skin until it disappears. Wash your hands after application.
Before taking Ultravate, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to halobetasol or any of the ingredients in Ultravate
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You are using products that contain hydrocortisone
What are the possible side effects of taking Ultravate?
Some individuals have reported side effects after using Ultravate. Mild symptoms include stinging, itching, redness, or burning at the application site. However, if any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your doctor for assistance.
Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction including swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue, hives, rash, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
What if I forget to take a dose of Ultravate?
If you forget to apply a dose of Ultravate, do so as soon as you remember and are able, unless it is almost time for the next application. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the amount applied or change the schedule to make up for one that was missed.
How do I store Ultravate?
Keep Ultravate tightly sealed in its original packaging, out of the reach of children and away from the extremes of temperature and humidity. Do not all the tube of medication to freeze. Dispose of any unused or expired quantity according to the instructions of a pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Ultravate?
Ultravate is for topical application only. If it is accidentally ingested, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.
