Vanos Information:
What is Vanos?
Vanos is a topical cream that contains a corticosteroid called fluocinonide. Fluocinonide is a high-potency corticosteroid which is one reason why it is more expensive than others. Vanos is normally prescribed for short-term use and can be used to treat various irritating skin conditions that respond to steroids such as eczema and allergy symptoms.
How do I take Vanos?
Vanos is usually applied two to four times daily. Before using Vanos, cleanse the affected area(s) with a mild soap and allow it to dry. Then apply a thin layer of the cream to the area(s) that need treatment and rub it in. Be sure not to get this medication in your eyes, nostrils or mouth. Depending on your condition, your doctor or dermatologist may have you wrap or cover the area after you apply Vanos. Always follow your doctor’s instructions. Wash your hands after you finish applying your medication.
Before taking Vanos, tell your doctor if:
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You are taking or using any other prescription or nonprescription medications, especially other topical medications.
- You use other skincare products on the affected area(s)
- You currently have an infection or frequently get infections.
- You have glaucoma or cataracts.
- You have a circulation disorder.
What are the possible side effects of taking Vanos?
Possible side effects from using Vanos include burning, itching, stinging, dryness, acne or redness at the site of application. These side effects shouldn’t persist as your body gets used to the medication. If any of these side effects are severe or persistent, report them to your doctor. Serious but rare side effects include skin discoloration, thinning skin, stretch marks and excessive hair growth. Report any serious or unusual side effects to your doctor as soon as possible
What if I forget to apply a dose of Vanos?
If you forget to apply a dose of Vanos, apply the missed dose whenever you remember, but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular regimen. Do not apply two consecutive doses to try to make up for a missed one.
How do I store Vanos?
Store tubes of Vanos at a room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of young children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Vanos?
Topical overdose on Vanos is not likely, but might occur with chronic use. Signs include extreme fatigue, weight loss, headache and vision problems. Chronic use of corticosteroids, especially potent ones like Vanos, can weaken the body’s natural immune response overtime. If you experience signs of an infection, tell your doctor as soon as possible. If someone has accidentally ingested Vanos, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Chronic use of Vanos can increase your risk of getting an infection. Treatment with this medication should not exceed more than two weeks at a time. Tell your doctor if your skin condition is not improving or getting worse from treatment.
