What is Flonase?
Flonase nasal spray is a brand drug that is available with or without a prescription, and it is used to relieve symptoms of allergies, including a runny nose, itching, sneezing, and watery eyes. Flonase comes as a liquid to spray in the nose as directed by your doctor.
Flonase is classified as a corticosteroid, and it works by blocking the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation.
How do I use Flonase?
Flonase is usually prescribed to be used in adults for the relief of symptoms caused by allergies as follows: 2 sprays in each nostril once daily, or 1 spray in each nostril twice daily. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist for dosage instructions, or refer to the package.
Before using Flonase, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to Flonase or to any other medications
- You are taking any other medications, vitamins, or herbal or nutritional supplements
- You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or you are breastfeeding

What are the possible side effects of using Flonase?
Contact your doctor if any of these symptoms persist or become severe:
- Headache or dizziness
- Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
- Dryness, stinging, irritation, or burning in the nose
- Bloody mucus in the nose
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these serious symptoms:
- Severe face pain
- Vision changes
- Hives, rash, or itching
- Thick nasal discharge
- Hoarseness
- Difficulty breathing or difficulty swallowing
- Signs of infection including fever, sore throat, or chills
- Wheezing
- Feeling faint
- Swelling of the face, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
- Frequent or severe nosebleeds
What if I forgot to use a dose of Flonase?
Take your missed dose of Flonase as soon as your remember to take it, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dose schedule.
How do I store Flonase?
Store this medication tightly closed when not in use. Store it at room temperature and keep away from excess moisture and heat. Keep this medication out of reach of children and away from pets. Properly dispose of any expired or unnecessary medication.
What happens if I overdose on Flonase?
In case of overdose, call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) to find out what to do, or seek immediate medical attention.
