What is Ambien CR?

Ambien CR is the brand name for the sedative zolpidem, a non-barbiturate hypnotic medication. It is a central nervous depressant, and is used in the treatment of insomnia. What are the possible side effects of taking Ambien CR?

Some patients have reported side effects after taking Ambien CR, some more severe than others. Less severe side effects include gastrointestinal problems (gas, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, or stomach pain or tenderness); appetite changes, balance problems, dizziness, or lightheadedness; sleepiness, a feeling of being drugged; dry mouth or throat; red eyes, headache, pain in the back, joints, or neck; muscle cramps or pain; burning, itching, numbing or pain in the limbs or extremities; heavy menstrual bleeding; tinnitus, tremors, or unusual dreams. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider.
