Adlyxin Information:

The injectable drug Adlyxin is used once daily as an injectable medicine to help treat type 2 diabetes in adults. The lixisenatide contained within is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It increases glucose-dependent insulin release, decreases glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying. It is not a replacement for insulin treatments.

Adlyxin comes in injectable form only. Inject the regular dosage under the skin of your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Do not inject this medicine directly into a vein. Make sure you use a new injection site every time you inject. Dispose of needles properly and do not share needles with others. If you do, you risk serious infection or transmission of serious or fatal disease.

Before taking Adlyxin, tell your doctor if:

  • You have or have had pancreatitis
  • You have or have had stones in your gallbladder
  • You have a history of alcoholism
  • You have or have a history of kidney problems
  • You have severe stomach problems, such as a delayed emptying of your stomach (gastroparesis) or problems digesting food
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or plan to become pregnant
  • You have any food or drug allergies
  • You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements

Adlyxin affects the chemicals in your body and may cause some common side effects such as nausea, vomiting, headache, diarrhea, and dizziness. Get help from your doctor as soon as possible if you begin to experience headache, drowsiness, weakness, hunger, fast heartbeat, dizziness, confusion, irritability, sweating and feeling jittery.

Take the dose that you missed as soon as you remember. Follow all instructions provided by your doctor, including those that dictate what to do when you have missed a dose. Do not take two doses at once to make up for a dose that you may have missed.

Store Adlyxin in a cool, dry place, away from heat and moisture. Do not allow children or pets to reach this medicine. Adlyxin may be harmful to children and pets.

You may begin to notice some of the severe symptoms listed in Side Effects. If you suspect you may have overdosed, get to an emergency room as quickly as possible or call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.

Use of the drug Adlyxin may cause inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), which can become severe or fatal. Stop using this drug and contact your physician immediately if you feel severe pain in your stomach that is persistent. It may or may not accompany vomiting. The chance of pancreatitis increases if you have a history of pancreatic, kidney, or liver problems, or have abused alcohol in the past.

Adlyxin is the brand name of the generic drug lixisenatide. It has only recently been approved by the FDA and is not currently sold under any additional brand names.
