What is Acetylcysteine?

 

Acetylcysteine is a generic mucolytic agent that comes as a liquid solution that is inhaled using a nebulizer. This drug is typically used along with other treatments to relieve chest congestion. This drug is also sometimes used to treat patients who have overdosed on acetaminophen (such as Tylenol). How do I use Acetylcysteine?

 

Acetylcysteine liquid should be inhaled using the nebulizer that comes with your medication. This medication is typically prescribed to be used 3 to 4 times per day when being used with a nebulizer.
