Prevnar 13 is a vaccine administered to prevent diseases caused by pneumococcal bacteria; it contains thirteen different strains of this bacteria. Some people have reported side effects after taking Prevnar 13. Less severe symptoms include pain, irritation, swelling, or redness at the injection site, drowsiness, temporary loss of appetite, low-grade fever, and irritability. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your doctor.

Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (rash, hives, itching, peeling or blistered skin; swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue; fever; hoarseness; difficulty breathing or swallowing), seizures, wheezing, diarrhea, vomiting, severe stomach pain, high fever, bruising easily, and severe changes in behavior.
