Zylet Information:

What is Zylet?

Zylet contains both a steroid and an antibiotic and is used to fight bacterial infections in the eye. The steroid helps reduce swelling, itching, and redness, while the antibiotic kills the bacteria causing the infection.

How do I take Zylet?

Wash your hands thoroughly before using Zylet, and shake the bottle of solution before every use. When you are ready to apply a drop, hold the eye dropper directly above the infected eye without touching it to your eye or any other surface. Use the hand that is not holding the eye dropper to pull back your bottom eyelid, creating a small pouch for the solution. Squeeze a drop of the solution into your eye, look down, and close your eyes for one to two minutes while firmly holding a finger at the corner of your eye near your nose. If your prescription requires you to use more than one drop, repeat these steps until you have finished your dose.

Before taking Zylet, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to tobramycin or loteprednol (the active ingredients in this medication), or you have any other allergies
  • You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications
  • You have a history of eye problems, especially glaucoma
  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or may become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of taking Zylet?

In some cases, a stinging or burning sensation may occur immediately after you apply an eye drop. This should go away within one to two minutes, but if it persists or worsens, contact your doctor. Zylet may occasionally cause headaches. If you experience a persistent headache or any other unusual side effects, let your doctor know.

What if I forget to take a dose of Zylet?

Take the missed dose of Zylet as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and continue with your normal application schedule.

How do I store Zylet?

Keep Zylet at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep the bottle out of reach of pets and children. If you no longer need the solution, or if it has turned a cloudy color or has floating particles, throw it out. Talk to your pharmacist if you are not sure how to properly dispose of this medication.

What happens if I overdose on Zylet?

You are unlikely to overdose on Zylet using the normal application process; however, this medication can be harmful when swallowed. If you or someone in your household has swallowed this solution, contact your local poison control center by calling 1-800-222-1222.

Warnings

Never use Zylet for longer than it has been prescribed, as prolonged usage can lead to eye problems such as glaucoma, cataracts, and fungal eye infections. Because Zylet can cause temporary vision changes, you should avoid doing any activities that require clear vision (such as driving) until you know how this medication affects you.
