What is Ziana?
Ziana is a topical medicine that comes in the form of a gel. It contains clindamycin, an antibiotic, and tretinoin, a retinoid medication. Clindamycin works by killing the P. acnes bacteria which may sometimes cause acne. Tretinoin works by clearing pores and helping to increase skin cell turnover.
How do I use Ziana?
Ziana medicine comes in tubes of 30 grams or 60 grams. It should be applied in the evenings before bed. A pea-sized amount should be used each night to cover the nose, forehead, cheeks and chin. Avoid applying Ziana to sensitive areas like around the mouth and near the eyes and nostrils
Before taking Ziana, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Ziana medicine.
- You’ve ever had inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
- You have eczema or any other skin conditions besides acne.

What if I forget to take a dose of Ziana?
If you miss an application of Ziana, wait until the next evening to apply it again. Do not apply Ziana during the day and do not use a double application to try to make up for the missed application.
How do I store Ziana?
Store Ziana medicine around 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not allow this medication to freeze and keep it out of sunlight. Also keep this medication tightly closed and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Ziana?
If used topically, it is very difficult to overdose on Ziana. If your skin becomes extremely irritated, talk to your doctor or dermatologist. You may be using too much. If Ziana medicine is accidentally ingested, contact the Poison Control Center immediately at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
When using Ziana, your skin may become sensitive to certain skincare products and soaps. Avoid products that contain alcohol or other drying agents. Also avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Be sure to use sunscreen and cover your face with a hat if staying outdoors for longer periods of time.
