Epiduo Information:
What is Epiduo?
Epiduo is a gel that consists of a combination of adapalene and benzoyl peroxide that is used to treat acne. Adapalene works similarly to vitamin A by helping skin to renew itself. While benzoyl peroxide has an antibacterial and mild drying effect, it also allows excess oils and dirt to be easily washed away, treating and preventing breakouts.
How do I take Epiduo?
Use our free Epiduo coupon to reduce the price of this gel in your local pharmacy. Epiduo is for topical use on skin only. Avoid contacts with eyes, nose, mouth, or genitals. Do not use it on skin areas that are open. Before applying Epiduo, the affected area of skin should be cleansed with water and a mild soap. After rinsing well and patting dry, apply a small amount of the Epiduo gel to the affected areas (example: forehead, chin, cheeks, chest, shoulders), and gently rub it in.
Before taking Epiduo, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to adapalene or any other medications.
- You are taking any prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, or herbal products.
- You are using any other skin care products including soaps, cleansers, moisturizers, and cosmetics.
- If you have or have ever had eczema or cancer.
- If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.
What are the possible side effects of taking Epiduo?
Serious side effects that require contacting your doctor immediately include signs of allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Other less serious side effects may include: dryness, redness, or scaling of the skin. The areas of skin where Epiduo has been applied may yield some burning or stinging. Some minor itchiness may also occur. Contact your doctor if any of these symptoms become severe.
What if I forget to take a dose of Epiduo?
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember it. If it is almost time for the next dose, it is okay to skip the missed dose and continue your regular application schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.
How do I store Epiduo?
Epiduo should stay in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. It should be stored at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture.
What happens if I overdose on Epiduo?
Though it is difficult to topically overdose on Epiduo, if it is accidentally ingested, contact your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Using multiple acne medications at a time could cause severe skin irritation.
Avoid getting Epiduo in your mouth, nose, or eyes, or on your lips. If it does get into any of these areas, rinse away immediately. Avoid applying to sunburned, wind-burned, dry, chapped, irritated, or broken skin, wounds, or on areas of eczema. Wait until these conditions have healed before using this medication.
Avoid soaps, shampoos, skin cleansers, hair removers, waxes, or skin products with alcohol, spices, astringents, or lime. Speak to your doctor about any additional skin products you plan on using with Epiduo. Epiduo can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so be sure to avoid direct sunlight without sunscreen or tanning beds while using.
