What is Vraylar?
Vraylar is a drug used as an antipsychotic for the treatment of bipolar disorder type I. It works differently than other antipsychotics as a D2 and D3 partial agonist. D2 and D3 receptors are important targets for the treatment of schizophrenia because research has found that the overstimulation of dopamine receptors caused by actions such as drug abuse may be a cause of schizophrenia. Vraylar inhibits overstimulated dopamine receptors until endogenous dopamine levels become too low.
How do I take Vraylar?
Take Vraylar according to your doctor's prescription. Follow all directions printed on your prescription label. If your doctor changes your dosage, be sure to follow any new directions. Do not take more or less than the prescribed amount. Take Vraylar with or without food. Symptoms may take several weeks to improve.
Before taking Vraylar, tell your doctor if:

Get medical help immediately if you experience a lightheaded feeling, severe distress or agitation, a seizure, uncontrolled muscle movements in your face, trouble swallowing, a blood cell disorder, high blood sugar, or severe nervous system reaction.
What if I forget to take a dose of Vraylar?
Take the dose that you missed the moment you remember. Make sure to skip any missed doses if it is almost time for your next dose. Absolutely do not take extra medicine to make up for any missed doses.
How do I store Vraylar?
Vraylar should be stored inside of its original container. Keep it at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Close the lid to the bottle tightly when storing.
What happens if I overdose on Vraylar?
An overdose of the drug Vraylar can cause serious, permanent damage to your body and mental health. Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Control line at 1-800-222-1222 if you experience any of the severe side effects listed above.
