Veltin Information:
What is Veltin?
Veltin (clindamycin/tretinoin) is an antibiotic and Vitamin A (respectively) combination gel prescribed to treat acne vulgaris in patients 12 years or older. You should not use other acne products while utilizing this medication unless instructed to by your doctor.
How do I take Veltin?
Use this medication 1 time daily at the same time every day. Wash your hands and face without scrubbing and dry with a clean towel. Put a tiny amount (no larger than pea-sized) on your finger tip and dot in areas instructed by your doctor (usually the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin). Gently rub the medication over your entire face, avoiding your eyes, lips, and other mucous membranes. Never ingest this medication or apply it inside any orafices.
Using larger amounts of Veltin than prescribed will not make it more effective. Do not apply to broken or otherwise irritated skin, and do not use on wounds.
Before taking Veltin, tell your doctor if:
• You have had an adverse reaction to other antibiotics, especially watery or bloody diarrhea or allergic reaction.
• You are pregnant or breastfeeding or plan to become pregnant or to breastfeed.
• You have or have a history of gastrointestinal disease or disorder, especially Crohn's disease, enteritis, or ulcerative colitis.
• You are regularly exposed to sunlight or other weather elements and cannot avoid them for any reason.
• You are taking any other drugs, medications, supplements, or vitamins, especially containing erythromycin.
What are the possible side effects of taking Veltin?
Diarrhea can be a side effect of antibiotics, including the clindamycin in Veltin. However, it may be indicative of a new or worsening infection. If you have diarrhea, do not take an antidiarrheal without consulting your doctor first.
Some of Veltin's side effects are severe and require immediate medical attention. These include: allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, hives with itching, swelling in the face, lips, tongue, throat), diarrhea that is bloody or watery, or burning or stinging of the treated skin with severe redness or scaling.
Common side effects are: mild itchiness or other irritation, mild redness, or dry or peeling skin at the application site.
What if I forget to take a dose of Veltin?
You should not use extra medication to make up for a missed dose, so if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Otherwise you can apply this medication as soon as you remember it. Maintain your regular application schedule.
How do I store Veltin?
Keep the Veltin gel in its tube until you need to apply some, then only squeeze out the appropriate dosage size. Store the tube at room temperature away from excess heat, light, or moisture. Never freeze.
What happens if I overdose on Veltin?
If you suspect an overdose on Veltin or other abnormal reaction, call your local poison control center or seek emergency medical assistance.
Warnings
Continue applying Veltin even if you don't think it's working, or if your symptoms disappear. Only stop using this medication when instructed to do so by your doctor.
You shouldn't wash your face more than 3 times daily while using this medication, and do not scrub your face while washing. This may cause acne or other blemishes to become worse. If your symptoms worsen, contact your doctor right away.
Wait at least 1 hour before applying other skin products. Only use other topical medications on treated areas if instructed to by your doctor. This includes over-the-counter remedies.
Your skin, especially treated areas, will become more sensitive to sunlight and weather including cold and wind, making you more likely to sunburn or have wind burned or chapped skin. Apply protective lotions (e.g., sunscreen SPF 30 or higher) and keep covered up. Avoid tanning beds or activities that will overexpose your skin to the elements.
Brand Names
Unfortunately, although there are generic medications for each part of Veltin (clindamycin and tretinoin), they are not available as a generic combination medication. There are also no other combination brands. This means that the Veltin cost to you can become expensive. Take advantage of our free Veltin coupon and discount card and take 52% off the price of your next Veltin prescription.
