Noritate Information:
What is Noritate?
Noritate is a brand name of the medication metronidazole, an antibiotic of the nitroimidazole class of drugs, prescribed to treat rosacea (adult acne). It reduces skin redness and the number of pimples by killing bacteria on the skin and lesions caused by acne. It is available only by prescription.
How do I take Noritate?
Noritate is administered as a topical cream, applied directly to the affected area. About 15 to 20 minutes before applying the cream, gently wash the target zone using mild soap and water then thoroughly dry the area. Apply a thin layer of the Noritate cream to the affected area and gently rub it in. Wash hands after use. A moisturizer may be applied once the cream has been applied; discuss the use of approved cosmetics with your doctor.
Before taking Noritate, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to metronidazole or any of the ingredients in Noritate
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing
- You are taking any prescription, or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You are taking anti-coagulants
- You have, or have a history of, Crohn’s disease, liver or kidney disease, or a disease of the central nervous system
- You drink alcohol
What are the possible side effects of taking Noritate?
Some individuals have reported side effects after using Noritate. Mild symptoms include dry, itching, burning, stinging, or red skin. If any of these conditions persist, contact your doctor.
Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (hives, rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, throat, or tongue, or difficulty breathing or swallowing), stomach pain, or fever.
What if I forget to take a dose of Noritate?
If you forget a scheduled application of Noritate, apply it as soon as you remember and are able. Do not increase the amount applied to make up for a missed dose.
How do I store Noritate?
Keep Noritate tightly sealed in its original container, out of the reach of children and away from the extremes of temperature and humidity. Do not allow the cream to freeze. Dispose of any expired or unused portions according the instructions of a pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Noritate?
If Noritate is accidentally ingested, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has lost consciousness or stopped breathing, contact Emergency Services at 911.
