Metrogel Information:
What is Metrogel?
Metrogel contains an antibiotic called metronidazole that may help to control symptoms of rosacea such as pimples, pustules and papules. The way this medication works to treat rosacea is unknown. While rosacea may resemble acne vulgaris in some cases, they are not the same condition. Rosacea is a chronic, autoimmune response while acne is a result of hormonal and bacterial factors.
How do I use Metrogel?
If you don’t have insurance coverage or a Metrogel copay card, take our Metrogel coupon to your pharmacy to get up to 81% off when you fill your prescription. Before applying Metrogel, wash your face with a mild soap and allow it to dry completely. Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area(s) or all the areas on your face that are affect by rosacea, not just the pimples themselves. Use Metrogel once or twice daily, or as often as your doctor recommends. Wash your hands after each use.
Before using Metrogel, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Metrogel.
- You are taking other prescription or non-prescription drugs or using other products or topical medications on your face.
- You’ve ever had a disease of the central nervous system or liver or blood disease.
- You have Crohn’s disease.
- You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
What are the possible side effects of taking Metrogel?
Side effects from using Metrogel include stinging, burning, redness and irritation at the site of application. Other side effects may include a metallic taste in the mouth, nausea and headache. If these side effects are severe, or you experience any unusual side effects, contact your doctor at once.
What if I forget to take a dose of Metrogel?
If you missed an application of Metrogel, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s almost time for your next application, skip the missed one and continue on your regular regimen. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.
How do I store Metrogel?
Store Metrogel tightly closed and at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep your medication out of reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Metrogel?
There are no reported overdoses on the topical medication, Metrogel. If someone accidentally swallows this medication, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If your skin becomes severely irritated, call your doctor about changing medications or dosages.
