Neuac Information:
What is Neuac?
Neuac is a topical antibiotic combining the medications clindamycin phosphate and benzoyl peroxide; it is prescribed to treat acne. Clindamycin phosphate is an antibiotic that prevents bacterial growth while benzoyl peroxide has antibacterial properties and also delivers a drying effect that helps with the removal of oil and dirt.
How do I use Neuac?
Neuac is a topical gel applied to the skin, usually twice a day; however, the actual regimen will be determined by the severity of the condition and the medical profile of the individual. Before applying, thoroughly wash your hands and the affected area with warm water and soap, then pat dry using a clean towel. Spread a thin layer of the gel over the skin using your fingertips and gently massage it in until it vanishes. If you use too much, wipe the extra off. Wash your hands with warm water once you have finished applying the medication. Do not get Neuac in your eyes, nose, mouth, or other parts of the body. If the medication comes in contact with the eyes, flush with warm water and contact your doctor.
Before using Neuac, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to clindamycin phosphate, benzoyl peroxide, lincomycin, or any of the ingredients in Neuac
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You have any chronic skin problems or a severe sunburn
- You have, or have had, stomach problems, ulcerative colitis, or severe diarrhea caused by a reaction to antibiotics
What are the possible side effects of using Neuac?
Side effects have been reported by those using Neuac, including dry, red, itching, or peeling skin. If these symptoms appear and linger or get worse, contact your healthcare provider. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following: severe diarrhea, signs of an allergic reaction, changes to skin or nail color or texture, stomach pain or cramps, or blood or mucus in your stools.
What if I forget to use a dose of Neuac?
If you miss a scheduled application of Neuac and you are not on a dosing schedule, apply it as soon as you remember and are able. If you are on a dosing regimen and it is almost time for another dose, do not apply the missed one. Skip the one missed and resume the prescribed regimen. Do not increase the amount or frequency of use to make up for the one missed.
How do I store Neuac?
Keep Neuac tightly sealed in its original tube, out of the reach of children and away from the extremes of temperature and humidity. Do not allow it to freeze. Dispose of any unused or expired medication according to the instructions of a pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Neuac?
Neuac is for external use only. If it is accidentally ingested or gets in the eyes, nose, or mouth, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing of lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.
