Lescol Information:
What is Lescol?
Lescol is the drug fluvastatin, an HMG CoA reductase inhibitor. It is prescribed to help reduce the risk of a stroke, heart attack, and heart disease in those likely to develop heart disease. It may also be prescribed to help decrease LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in adults and in adolescents between 10 and 17 who have the inherited condition familial heterozygous hypercholesterolemia. It works by slowing cholesterol production that will build up on the walls of arteries and block blood flow to the heart and other areas of the body.
How do I take Lescol?
Lescol is dispensed in capsule form and taken orally, with or without food; dosing is either once or twice a day, depending on the patient profile. Swallow the capsule whole, with water; do not crush, chew, or split the capsule. Your doctor may also recommend a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet as well as an exercise regimen. Continue to take this medication even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Lescol without your doctor’s permission.
Before taking Lescol, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to fluvastatin or any of the ingredients in Lescol
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements

- You have, or have had, liver, thyroid, or kidney disease
- You have, or have had, diabetes, seizures, hypotension, or muscle aches or pains
- You drink alcohol and your frequency of consumption
