Gastrocrom Information:

What is Gastrocrom?

Gastrocrom is an oral medication that contains cromolyn sodium which is a mast cell stabilizer. Mastocytosis is a disorder that involves the overproduction of mast cells, a type of cells produced by the body’s immune system that release histamine. Histamine causes diarrhea and abdominal pain and other gastrointestinal symptoms when released in the gut, and it causes other symptoms, such as itching, inflammation, the release of mucous and other symptoms that are similar to those of an allergic reaction. Gastrocrom works by inhibiting the release of histamine from mast cells.

How do I take Gastrocrom?

The adult dosage for Gastrocrom is 8 ampules per day. The ampules should be broken open and mixed with an 8-oz glass of water. Stir the contents well before consuming. These ampules should be consumed at regular intervals throughout the day, and 2 should be taken at once. The first dose of 2 ampules should be taken a half hour prior to the first meal of the day, and the next 2 doses should be consumed a half hour prior to the second and third meals of the day. The last dose of 2 ampules should be consumed a half hour before bedtime. Once a control of symptoms is obtained, this dosage may be reduced to a lower maintenance dose.

Before taking Gastrocrom, tell your doctor if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have kidney or liver disease
  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Gastrocrom
  • You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription drugs
