What is Duac?
Duac is a topical medication that is used to treat acne. It is a combination drug that contains both clindamycin, an antibiotic, and 5% benzoyl peroxide. It works by killing acne-causing bacteria as well as reducing oil and helping skin cell turnover.
How do I use Duac?
By Duac at a pharmacy with a prescription from your doctor and a Duac coupon from HelpRx. Before applying Duac, wash your face with a mild soap or cleanser and then pat it dry. Apply a thin layer of the medication to the affected area and allow the skin to absorb it. Do not apply Duac near your eyes or around the nostrils or mouth. Try to use this medication at the same time every day. It may take up to 12 weeks to see results.
Before taking Duac, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Duac or you have had reactions to other topical medications.
- You are using other products on your skin in the same area you will be applying Duac.
- You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
- You have an intestinal disorder such as ulcerative colitis or antibiotic-associated colitis.
What are the possible side effects of taking Duac?
Side effects from using Duac may include itchiness, redness, burning and dry skin at the site of application. Moisturizers may help these side effects. Talk to your doctor or dermatologist about what you should use. Serious side effects include allergic reaction and diarrhea, abdominal cramping and blood in your stool caused by clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any serious or persistent side effects.
What if I forget to take a dose of Duac?
If you miss a dose of Duac, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed application and continue on your regular regimen. Do not apply two doses of Duac at once to make up for a missed one.
How do I store Duac?
Store Duac in a cool, dry place but do not allow it to freeze. Keep the tube of medication tightly closed and out of reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Duac?
Overdose on Duac is not likely. If you apply too much, you may experience symptoms similar to severe side effects. Talk to your prescribing doctor if you think you are using too much. If someone has accidentally ingested Duac, all the Poison Control Center immediately at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Duac may make your skin more sensitive. Try to stay out of the sun and wear sunblock. If you have doubts, talk to your doctor or dermatologist about what types of skin products you can or can’t use concurrently with this medication.
