Antipyrine Benzocaine Information:
Antipyrine benzocaine is an otic (for the eyes) medication containing an analgesic and anesthetic. The combination of antipyrine with benzocaine helps to relieve discomfort and inflammation caused by ear infections.
Your doctor or pharmacist will explain how to use the antipyrine benzocaine medicine; follow these instructions carefully and ask questions if anything is unclear. Before each application, lie down or tilt your head to the side so that you will have an easier time adding the medication to the affected ear. Gently squeeze the prescribed number of drops into your ear canal and keep your ear facing up for several minutes so that the medicine doesn’t leak out.
Before using antipyrine benzocaine, tell your doctor if:
· You have any food or drug allergies
· You are taking any prescription or non-prescription drugs, supplements, or vitamins
· You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning a pregnancy
Side effects of this drug are unlikely; in fact, no common side effects have been reported with the use of antipyrine benzocaine in small doses. However, you should get emergency medical help right away if you begin experiencing signs of a severe allergic reaction, including itching, hives, trouble breathing, a tight feeling in your chest, or swelling of your tongue, lips, mouth, and face.
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember and are able, unless it’s almost time for your next scheduled dose. In this case, simply skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosing schedule. Don’t apply two doses at once.
Keep your antipyrine benzocaine medicine at room temperature, away from moisture, light, and heat. Do not leave your medication anywhere that children or pets could get into it, and keep the container tightly sealed when not in use. If you notice that the medication has changed colors or has particles floating in it, dispose of it according to the instructions of your pharmacist.
You are unlikely to overdose on antipyrine benzocaine when applying it to your ear canal as intended. However, if you are concerned that you have used too many drops, or if someone in your home has ingested some of this medicine, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 to find out what to do.
Warnings
To prevent contamination, keep the tip of the ear dropper bottle from touching your ear or any surface. If you become pregnant while taking antipyrine benzocaine, contact your doctor to determine if it’s still safe to keep using this medication.
