Xopenex Hfa Information:
What is Xopenex Hfa?
Xopenex Hfa is the brand name for the generic drug Levalbuterol, which is used to prevent or relieve wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing and tightness in the chest—symptoms caused by lung diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Xopenex Hfa is a pressurized metered-dose aerosol inhaler (MDI), which produces an aerosol for oral inhalation. It contains a combination of micronized levalbuterol tartrate, propellant HFA-134a, dehydrated alcohol USP, and Oleic Acid NF. Xopenex Hfa comes as a liquid solution to be inhaled by mouth using a nebulizer, which is a device that turns the liquid into a mist allowing it to be inhaled. Xopenex Hfa is a concentrated solution mixed with normal saline, which works by relaxing and opening air passages to the lungs to allow patients suffering from lung ailments to breathe easier.
How do I take Xopenex Hfa?
Buy Xopenex Hfa through your local pharmacy by using our free Xopenex Hfa coupon and get 89% off your Xopenex Hfa price. The inhaler should be primed by releasing 4 sprays into the air, away from the face, before using it for the first time and when the inhaler has not been used for more than 3 days. After priming with 4 actuations, each actuation delivers 59 mcg of levalbuterol tartrate from the actuator. Each 15g canister provides 200 inhalations and each 8.4g canister provides 80 inhalations. The solution is typically used three times a day, typically once every 6-8 hours. Should your asthma symptoms become worse or if the inhalation becomes less effective or you require more doses than usual of the asthma medications you use as needed, you should immediately contact your doctor. The dose from Xopenex Hfa will be different for different patients, and you should follow your doctor’s orders or the directions on the label.
Before taking Xopenex Hfa, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to it or to similar drugs, such as albuterol, metaproterenol, salmeterol, or if you have any other allergies.
- You have a history of diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, kidney disease, seizure, or overactive thyroid.
- You regularly drink alcoholic beverages.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What are the possible side effects of taking Xopenex Hfa?
Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur you may need medical attention. Check with your doctor if you experience nervousness, dizziness, shaking, trouble sleeping, headache, nausea, dry mouth, cough, sore throat or runny nose. Consult your doctor right away if you experience a fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat, muscle cramps or weakness, increase thirst or urination, chest pain, rapid breathing or confusion. This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
