What is Vusion?
Vusion is an antifungal medication containing miconazole, petrolatum, and zinc oxide. It has been approved for use in infants who are at least four weeks old. If your child has a case of diaper rash that has been complicated by a yeast infection, Vusion can help treat both conditions. It works by stopping the growth of fungus and providing a protective barrier between the diaper and the skin.
How do I use Vusion?
Wash your hands and clean your child’s diaper area before using Vusion. Spread the ointment in a thin layer over the affected area when you change your child’s diaper, or however often your pediatrician tells you to. Do not rub the ointment in. Use Vusion for one full week, unless your doctor has given you different instructions for treatment. Change your child’s diaper frequently in order for this treatment to be the most effective.
Before using Vusion, tell your doctor if:
- Your child is allergic to miconazole, petrolatum, or zinc oxide
- Your child has any other allergies
- Your child has had any other skin problems
- Your child has had any other infections
- You are breastfeeding or pregnant
What are the possible side effects of using Vusion?
It is rare for the Vusion drug to cause any serious side effects. In some cases, it may cause mild skin irritation. In very rare cases, it may cause a serious allergic reaction, which can lead to itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat; rash; extreme dizziness; or difficulty breathing. Seek immediate medical attention in the unlikely event of an allergic reaction, and contact your doctor if your child has any other side effects.
What if I forget to apply a dose of Vusion?
If you forget to apply Vusion when changing your child’s diaper, apply it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for the next diaper change. In this case, simply apply the next dose of Vusion as you would have otherwise. Do not use more of the ointment than you normally would in an effort to catch up.
How do I store Vusion?
Keep Vusion tightly sealed in its original container, out of reach of pets and children when it is not in use. Store at room temperature. If you have remaining ointment that you no longer need, ask your pharmacist how to properly dispose of it.
What happens if I overdose on Vusion?
Overdose should not be an issue when this medication is applied topically, but the ointment can be harmful when swallowed. If you or your child accidentally swallows any of the Vusion drug, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 immediately.
Warnings
Vusion is intended for use on the skin only. Keep it away from the eyes, mouth, and vagina. Do not use the ointment for longer than it has been prescribed, as unnecessary use may cause the medication to become less effective.
Brand Name
