What is modafinil?
Modafinil is mainly prescribed to promote wakefulness in patients that suffer from sleep deprivation due to narcolepsy and sleep apnea. Elevated levels of histamines, dopamine, and other neurotransmitters have been discovered in the hypothalamus while using this medication. Unlike other stimulants, modafinil seems to increase the availability of neurotransmitters in one specific region of the brain rather than indiscriminately targeting neurotransmitters throughout the central nervous system.
