Lysodren Information:
Lysodren is a brand name drug that comes in tablet form and is used to treat inoperable cancer of the adrenal gland (adrenal cortical carcinoma). It is an antineoplastic agent and it works by reducing the size of the tumor or slowing the growth of the tumor in the adrenal gland. Lysodren is also sometimes used to treat Cushing’s Syndrome.
Lysodren comes in tablet form and should be taken orally and exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking Lysodren without consulting with your doctor.
Patients typically start taking Lysodren at a low dose and the dose is gradually increased by your doctor. Patients are also typically hospitalized when treatment with Lysodren begins.
Before using Lysodren, tell your doctor if:

you are allergic to Lysodren or to any other medications
-
what other prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking
-
what nutritional supplements and vitamins you are taking
-
you are taking any of the following: anticoagulants, antidepressants, sedatives, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, or spironolactone
- you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding

you have or have ever had liver disease.
Notify your doctor if any of the following symptoms occur or do not go away while you are taking Lysodren:

nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

loss of appetite
-
depression
-
loss of energy
-
excessive drowsiness or dizziness

changes in vision
-
rash or changes in skin color
Because Lysodren can cause excessive drowsiness, take care not to operate machinery or drive a car until you know how this medication affects you.
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms while taking Lysodren:

side pain

abdominal pain
-
confusion
- high fever, excessive sweating, or chills
-
rapid heartbeat
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Store this medication at room temperature, away from extreme heat or moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Properly dispose of any expired medication or medication that is no longer needed
In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
Warnings

Lysodren may cause damage to your nervous system or brain if taken at high doses for more than 2 years. Consult with your doctor about the possible long-term effects of taking this medication.

Your doctor may conduct lab tests regularly while you are on this medication. Be sure to keep all of your appointments with your doctor while taking Lysodren.
