Flovent Diskus Information:
What is Flovent Diskus?
Flovent Diskus is the corticosteroid fluticasone, in powder form, delivered through an inhaler and is prescribed to treat the symptoms of asthma (chest tightness, breathing difficulties, coughing, and wheezing) by reducing inflammation and irritation in the lungs and airways. It is not used to treat a severe asthma attack.
How do I take Flovent Diskus?
Flovent Diskus is a medication delivered as an aerosol powder, twice a day, at the same time every day. Before using this medication for the first time, discuss the proper procedure for using it with your doctor, and follow the dosing instructions that accompany the Flovent Diskus. Before using, the Flovent Diskus must be at room temperature and the canister shaken at least five times. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth, closing your lips around the opening, and breathe in deeply while simultaneously pressing down on the top of the inhaler. After inhalation of the medicine, remove the inhaler, close your mouth, and hold your breath for ten seconds. If you have been prescribed more than on puff, wait thirty seconds and repeat the process. Replace the cap, rinse your mouth with water, and spit the water out. Clean the inhaler once a week after an evening dose.
Before taking Flovent Diskus, tell your doctor if:
