Muscle spasms can occur without warning, causing sudden pain. When the spasms become chronic, they can lead to continual pain, especially common in the back and neck. There are various types of muscle relaxers, and we can help you find discounts on the one that’s right for you.

Muscle Spasms Information & Discounts
What is a Muscle Spasm?
Muscle spasms are distinct from muscle twitches. Often, when one is tired or overworked, the muscles directly under the skin can twitch, but that generally easily seen and not particularly painful. Muscle spasms, on the other hand, are often very painful and result spasms of skeletal muscles or muscles inside hollow organs.
Dehydration and an electrolyte imbalance are often the cause of skeletal muscle spasms, and can sometimes be cured by drinking fluids and massaging the afflicted area. Organ muscle spasms are often caused by menstrual cramps, diarrhea, gallbladder pain, and passing a kidney stone.
How can I manage Muscle Spasms?
Stretching and Massage
If the muscle spasms are not chronic, but rather the result of overexertion, they can be treated by stretching and massaging the afflicted area. They can often be prevented by staying hydrated and cool during periods of exertion.
Drug Therapy
If the spasms are severe, last a long time, or reoccur, a more thorough treatment is required. Visit your doctor so he can find the underlying cause of the spasms. At the same time, he can prescribe you muscle relaxants so the spasms will cease.
What are the different types of Muscle Relaxers?
Centrally Acting Relaxants
Centrally acting muscle relaxants act on the central nervous system to create a degree of paralysis on the spasming muscle. They do not treat the causes of muscle spasms, only the symptoms. It is not yet known exactly how they work, though it is suspected that they have a sedative effect on the central nervous system.
Direct Acting Relaxants
Direct acting muscle relaxants acts directly on the muscles rather than focusing on the central nervous system. They tend to have fewer side effects than their centrally acting counterparts, but are also less powerful and generally take several hours before they are effective. These relaxants treat only the symptom of muscle spasm, not the cause.
What are the symptoms of Muscle Spasms?
The biggest sign of a muscle spasm is the acute onset of pain. Sometimes you will be able to see or feel the bulging of the muscle underneath the skin. The spasm generally resolves after a few seconds, sometimes with stretching. If muscle spasms are chronic, they can be an indication of an underlying problem.
